When you open the Excel file, you receive the error: "file Error: data may be lost. "After clicking OK, Excel closes. The file is written in Excel 2003. How to fix and open this file? Tried it on other computers with different versions of Excel - never opened. Changed the extension, etc. - did not help. I can mail the file myself.

A corrupt excel spreadsheet can be repaired by using Open and Repair technique. It is a built-in repair function that opens a corrupt excel file forcefully.
*OpenMS Excel >pressCtrl+O >locate corrupt excel spreadsheet and select it.
*Click on the arrow shown besideOpenbutton>selectOpen and Repair.
It will take just a few seconds to be completed and selected file will be opened, if possible.

When you tried to access Excel file and this error occurs “File Error: Data May Have Been Lost”. It means Excel file is damaged or corrupt due to virus attack or human error. To fix this error try these methods:

1. Use the same version of Excel in which Excel worksheet created

2. If the 1st solution is not working then try “Open and Repair” inbuilt feature of MS Excel. Through this you can repair your damage excel file.

If both methods does not work then use any third party tool.

To clarify to future readers, this link leads to a commercial tool for use on Microsoft Excel. It is NOT designed/built by Microsoft. As the link relates to the topic question, I'll remove the flag for potential spam.
