VLookUp / IF / Match Help

Dear Excel Whizzes & Wizards

I am trying to match a code to one s/sheet from another within the same workbook. I pretty much copied a formula sequence from my predecessor's files to no avail.

Please take a look at my formula in Cell V3 of my dummy file and advise where I have gone wrong. Attached are .xlsx file and image of error message.

I have searched through other VLook Up threads on your site but as I am only just getting to grips with understanding it, I didn't find an answer to what I think I needed or if it was there, I didn't understand! Sorry, I am keen to become and Excel Ninja or Guru and hope you can be patient with me :)

Many thanks

Mayhem

Hi ,

Can you please explain what you wish to do ?

Can the following formula not work ?

=VLOOKUP(U3,CodeID!$A$2:$B$8,2,FALSE)

Narayan

Shukria & Thank you, Narayan... True to your name, you are Absolute... No cell reference pun intended!

You simplified an unnecessarily complicated formula

Mission accomplished, have a good day :)

If I got it correct, you want the following:
If there is no date or if there is no code for product in sheet, return nothing
If product is in CodeID base and there is a date, then return matched code

Formula gets kinda messy, if circumstance allow, I'd go for simple =index(range of codes to return;match(lookup what; lookup range;0))

Edit: oh, I see simple solution is enough :)
