Table not autoexpanding properly... what gives!?!

Ok, so I have a range of cells formatted as a Table. Some of the cells contain Data Validation Lists, some contain various formulas and a few are blank for the end user to populate. The first row works wonderfully but I've noticed 2 issues that I just don't understand:

1) I thought that if you enter something into an adjacent cell (the next available row after the last record in the 'table') the table would automattically expand to include that new row?? The table only seems to 'expand' / add a new row when I hit tab through all of the columns.

2) After adding the new row to the table, only 1 cell in the new row does not work properly. The data validation from the previous row does not automatically fill down into the new row. If use the Fill Handle (the little black quare found in the bottom-right corner of a selected cell/range) it will copy the DV and will workly properly!

FYI: the Data Validation for this cell is a formula "=RoleList" which refers to a named range on a seperate worksheet. I don't see how that would matter at all as I have other cells that are setup the exactly same way!??

any ideas?! I'd prefer no Macro/VBA solutions (if possible)

ok, I now have the table auto expanding....

DV list is still not auto filling into the new row... ??

When applying data validation, you need to select entire table column to set up the rule. for this, place your mouse pointer on the column and hover until it turns in to black down arrow. Click to select the column. Now apply data validation rule. This should make DV apply to new rows automatically.

I did that.... thats why this is driving me crazy! I deleted the validation in that cell so i could just 'start over'. i selected the whole column/field, set the DV, and added a new row.... not working.

(love you avatar pic, btw!)

Hi, jason!

Did you try opening that workbook in a different machine? Does it behave alike?

If both yes, could you upload the file so as to check it directly? Thanks.

Regards!

OK..... update....

hows this for 'scientific': after driving myself crazy trying to get my hair to look like Chandoo and being unsuccessful, i decided to take another look at my spreadsheet issue. hahahhahaha

seriously though.... I looked and looked; at my naming, my formula's, the direction of the wind, the positioning of the moon... couldnt find any suspects. So, following the #1 rule in the Tech Support World (restart computer) i deleted the column and added a new one. redid the validation (didn't recreate any of the involved named ranges/tables) and it works!!!! NO IDEA what the problem was, but... she's workin!
