Regarding yesterday's post To get the MAX Value

Sir,

Yesterday you have given me the formula as

=MAX(if(($A$1:$A$6>29)*($A$1:$A$6<40),$A$1:$A$6,""))

Today because of typing this much - i have 100 excel sheets with 250 values in each to find the max value- i just selected the cell instead of typing $A$1:$A$6.So the formula now becomes =MAX(if((A1:A6>29)*(A1:A6<40),A1:A6,"")). It also works. So why we putting '$'. is there any difference between the two formulas...

Thanks,

Anu

This is called relative and absolute references.

The difference will kick in if you have to copy down / across the same formula.

Good day anuvnair
