I have an excel which has data from A1:E800, the data consists of 10 departments. Every time, I create 10 different excel for each department. This is done as one department should not see the data of another department. It is a very time consuming task.

My question is can I protect the sheet with 10 different passwords. So that the concerned department will unlock the worksheet by putting the password & will be able to see & edit only the data related to their department, the data of other departments should not be visible to them.

Request you to provide me with a solution.

It might be possible to setup multiple password inputs using some elaborate coding/sheet protection, but you run the risk of this getting bypassed either unintentially by having macros disabled or intentially via a small level of effort to defeat the coding. The only truly secure way to prevent 1 department from seeing data they aren't supposed to is to continue in the current method.


That said, you may want to write a macro that splits the data for you. That part of the task could certainly be automated. Might recommend starting here:

Another approach is to open the workbook displaying a modal user form where an Id/Password are asked, then checked against an internal (well hidden or better encrypted) table, and if succeeded then close the modal form and give access to the rest of the workbook.
