Conditional format color gradient on letters?

In the attached file, I have a conditional format color gradient applied to the numbers on row 14. I want to apply the same thing to the letters on row 5. This doesn't seem to work when I use 'number' or 'value' as the type.

Is there a way to do this?

Alpha do not hold a value as Numeric do so you can not CF as a value.

Hi ,

If you want this as a one-off exercise , then just use Custom Formatting for the cells D5:O5 ; enter the numbers 1 through 12 in this range , and then use Custom Formatting in each cell to display the musical note that you want displayed.

See the attached file where this has been done for cells D5 , E5 and O5.
