I have a large spread sheet that I work from every day - each day I track the new information and the last two days - it has completely changed the name of the file while I'm working on it -

I wouldnt notice this but as I want to keep uniformity - when I save it to the locations it doesnt give me the message "xx file already exists would you like to over write it?"

It doesnt change just the extension it also completely changed the name and not anything close to what I'm calling it -

example I call the sheet I work from:

jan.dec.2013.late.tickets.xlsm

today it changed it to

xx(the page I got the data from).com.url.xlsm

but I do not keep the URL information - I pull the information from that page and export it then paste it to my master sheet as listed above - while I"m working in it - at some point it changed it to that - how in the world did it do that?

Thanks very much

Hi, tenchie!

Please clarify these points:

a) you don't get prompted when saving a file with a name of other that exists?

b) while you're working with the file it changes the name automatically?

If I understood wrongly, would you elaborate a bit?

Regards!

hello Sir JB - that is correct - while I'm working on the file - somehow the name of the file changes - and of course because I'm focused on entering data I do not notice it it's only when I go to save it with the same name of the file as I opened and don't get the "file with same name " popup message that I noticed the name change and it seemed to arbitrarily pick some name that I never suggested it take - if I go back to where my main file is and change the name back to the name it was when I opened it - it then will give me that pop up message then I proceed to over write it as I have added the data for the day.... does that help?

Thank you very much :)

Hi, tenchie!

It seems to be a problem with a macro that is triggered while you're using the file, that's to say it's you who unwillingly perform a SaveAs operation.

Consider uploading a sample file (give a look at the green sticky posts at this forums main page for uploading guidelines).

Regards!
