Table Headers Replace Column Letters

I notice that if you have a table in excel that has a header row identified, and you scroll below that row, the column letters (overall for the document) are temporarily replaced by the row headers. That's a neat feature - but unfortunately it does not work if the top row of the document is frozen. I understand why they did that, however it would help me for a project if I could turn this feature off. By that I mean I want the column letters replaced by the table headers even if the top row is frozen. Yes - I know I could just freeze two rows and use that, but space is at a premium and if I could replace the column letters with the table headers that would be ideal. Is there any way to do this, or am I SOL?

Thank you!

but space is at a premium

As column alpha ID is fixed in all sheets you are saying that to have a row, just one row of table headers will compromise your work book due to a lack of spread sheet space?

.

The column alpha ID is replaced by table headers when you have a table - so they're not fixed 100% of the time. I just wanted to see if there was a work-around for the issue.

Yes - given the tablets we use at work space is at a premium. It's not the end of the world obviously, just would save us a bit space.
