SUBSTITUTE vs. REPLACE

Hi,
could you please give examples in which SUBSTITUTE would come in hand? And vice versa, cases which REPLACE is more likely to be used?

Use SUBSTITUTE() to substitute one or more occurrences of one substring with another substring. Use REPLACE() to remove a fixed set of characters (based on starting position and character count) with another substring.
