Serial numbers corresponding to number of times a criteria is repeated

hi folks,

...I have some values repeating in a column for random number of times. Countif gives me the number of repetitions, but I want to number the rows serially for number of times a value is repeated. In short want to a formula the column "series" in attached sample file...
I know it has to do with =rows(fx) using $ etc, but am struggling !
