Retaining the old cell value

Hi,

I am new to the forum and this being my first post, I do apologize for any mistakes/incompetence regarding the post.

The Task:
Create a file that tracks the development of each idividual team member. There are alot of tasks and procedures they need to perform and on which they are evaluated on, but all of this can be condensed to a single value in a single cell. I would need to create a method to track the value of that cell over time. Daily to be precise. This also has to be represented in a chart. Y axis - the level of competence X axis - the days.

The Issues: To make staff update their values everyday themselves is not an option.Neither is delegating this job to one particular person.

The Goal: I have looked into this from various ways, at this point I simply need excel to copy a value from one cell (A1) and paste it into another cell (A2) and then just keep the value in A2 independent from from any subsequent changes in A1. In other words - something like a manual copy/paste, but done by excel itself.

Also, if you have any other (more feasible) ideas on how to bring this file into existence, please let me know.

Thanks in advance,
Thorstein

Firstly, Welcome to the Chandoo.org Forums

Why not simply have a range of dates and have people fill in the values daily in the appropriate columns/rows?

Training into how/why data should be correctly entered is more worthwhile than trying to fool proof systems as generally then only a fool will want to use it

Hi Hui,

A valid point indeed. Also would be a much easier way to solve the issue. Though, in this case, nothing is easy to the unwilling, and they will forget, moan, and simply find excuses not to.

You can setup a Form that they fill in and it transfers the data to the right location, but they will have to enable macro's when the file opens ?
