INDIRECT() and accessing other workbooks.

I'm using indirect to create a link to an external file based on a variable that translates into a filename. The links work fine when the external file is open, but return a REF# if the file is not open ...

Is there any insight into my problem out there? Thanks

INDIRECT() can't be used on closed workbook, unfortunately.

There are several UDF or addin out there to achieve this.
