How to sum specific upgrades in a level

Hello everyone,
I need urgent help, I ve been stuck on this for 2 days and its holding me back quite seriously.

Basically, I have a table where there are 19 rows = 19 levels in a game.
In each level, a player can have 3 weapons. There are 4 weapons in 3 different tiers, and each has 10 ranks.

Tier 1 - W1 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10), w2 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10),w3 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10) ,w4 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10)
Tier 2 - W1 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10), w2 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10),w3 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10) ,w4 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10)
Tier 3 - W1 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10), w2 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10),w3 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10) ,w4 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10)

You can see on table two the upgrade costs for each weapon type, rank and tier.

Now back to table one, you can see players weapon progression, so for example in level 1, player only has Weapon 1 Tier 1 Rank 1.
In level 2, he upgrades this weapon to level 2 and also builds a Weapon 3 tier 1 rank 1 and a weapon 2 tier 1 rank 1 etc.

What I need to calculate, is how much the upgrade costs total in each level.


So for example-
In level one, Player only has Weapon 1 Tier 1, so the cost is 10 Gold.

In level two:
-> Player upgrades this weapon to level 2 = 20 Gold
-> Player builds a Tier 1 Weapon 3 rank 1weapon = 30 gold
-> Player builds a Tier 2, Weapon 2 rank 1 Weapon = 60 Gold.

So the sum for level two should be 110 gold.

Now in level three, player:
Doesnt upgrade his first weapon = 0 gold,
Upgrades the second weapon to rank 2 = 60 gold
Build a tier 3 weapon 1 rank 2 weapon = 180 gold

So for this level, the sum would be 180 gold.


Basically what I need to mainly tackle, is how to sum the specific upgrades in a level (sometimes it is just one upgrade, but what I dont know how to input, when the jump is in several increments, such as from for example rank 4 to rank 6 etc.) and how to tell excel, when no upgrade is done that the value is 0,

I think your matrix is missing one more dimension as per your expected results. You are considering the game level as well to decide on your upgrade cost, but the matrix you specify your weapon upgrade cost gives on the weapon rank which as per my understanding is one dimensional. You may want to expand your weapon upgrade cost matrix by including levels as well(say level-> weapon rank->tier) for each weapon type.

2. Weapons.vs.UpgradeCosts ------ =Sheet1!$T$5:$AF$15

3. Levels.vs.UpgradeCosts --------- =Sheet1!$AH$5:$AI$23

Given input data in the first 2 ranges , you would like to derive the outputs in the third range.

Taking the example of Level 3 , where the input data is as follows :

Tier 1 , Weapon 3 ------- 2

Tier 2 , Weapon 2 ------- 2

can you explain how you derived the upgrade cost as :

0 + 60 + 180

Hi,
if you look at level 3, the first weapon (tier 1, weapon 1) stays unupgraded, i.e. remains at rank 2, so there is no gold cost.

Second weapon (tier 1, weapon 3) is upgraded from rank 1 to rank 2, so it costs 90 gold.

Third weapon (tier 2, weapon 2) is upgraded from rank 1 to rank 2, so it costs 120 gold.

Therefore it should be 0+ 60+ 90. (my org. post contained an error)

Supposing you take the row number 7 on your workbook

  • Weapon 1 -Tier 1 -Upgraded from weapon rank 1 to weapon rank 2 , the cost of upgrading 20
  • Weapon 3 -Tier 1 - New weapon - weapon rank 1, the cost of upgrading 30
  • Weapon 2- Tier 2- New weapon -weapon rank 1 as per the logic you used for the above 2 weapons the cost of upgrading should be 60, but you have given it as 120, the logic breaks here explain why it is 120 instead of 60

Hello, it is quite simple. That table basically tracks which weapon/rank/tier the player has at which level. So as you can see the first column, those are levels. The numbers input in the table are ranks of the specific weapon/tier.
