How do I upload a file in private message area

According to the New a Users forum it says you can use the media icon to upload files. I'm trying to send someone a file in a private message and when I click on the media icon is ask for a media file and in a link format

How can I send a file while private messaging?

Hi,

I think uploading of files is not available in PMs,
if you want to send someone an image file, you can use any image hosting site.
or if you want to send other files, you can go with some file sharing sites like dropbox etc.
a Ninja will confirm.

That's what I'm doing but I've gotten files from others
