formula to sum and product

dear sir, I need a formula which im trying but unable to get


i have date c and e cells


i want a formula like this c3-e3

c4-sum(e4:e3)

c5-sum(e5:e3)

c6-sum(e6:e3)

if i just copy or drag to below cells i need this formula but whats happening if i drag or paste its coming like this

c3-e3

c4-sum(e4:e3)

c5-sum(e5:e4)

c6-sum(e6:e5)


help me pls

Add a $ sign to E3 as $E$3, so in your case would be sum(E4:$E$3)


Or press F4 button with the mouse cursor on E3...


then drag it or copy paste

Hi Srinivas ,


When you copy a formula to other cells , you can ensure that references do not change , by using the absolute referencing symbol $.


Thus if your formula in cell F3 is =C3-E3 , and you copy the formula to cell F4 , Excel will change the formula to =C4-E4.


However , if your original formula , in cell F3 , was =C3-E$3 ; now , when you copy this formula to cell F4 , Excel will make it =C4-E$3 ; the first reference changes from C3 to C4 , but the second reference remains E$3 because of the $ symbol.
