Hi All,
First post here. I'm really struggling with a specific file in Excel 2016. Here is the scenario:
I am a currency trader.
I have a very comprehensive Excel file where I log my trades and keep all my stats.
There are no macros, but a ton of formulas across 10 worksheets.
None of the formulas reference any outside workbooks.
The file saves at 1.7MB in my Trading folder.
When open, it uses about 250MB of RAM, whether formulas are in auto or manual mode.
When saving or copying material to the workbook (the data comes from a CSV file downloaded from the trading platform) the memory spikes to 3GB, hangs for about a minute, then my computer craps out and I have to do a hard reset unless I end task.
Right now it's only happening with this spreadsheet but it's the only one with this many calculations so I'm not sure if it's systemic or not.
There's only a few hundred lines at the most per worksheet.
Things I've tried:
Complete uninstall/reinstall of Office (no change).
Removing all formatting in the spreadsheet (no change).
Checked all formulas to ensure there is no circular logic or errors (looks clean).
Changed calculations to manual (hangs when clicking calculation on one sheet or the entire workbook).
My computer should easily be able to handle it even with the spike but something is causing it to fail - Dual quad-core hyperthreaded Intel Xeon processors at 3.4GHz, 64GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB SSD, 5TB Backup drive, Dual Nvidia GTX970 graphics cards powering 5 28" 4K monitors, with 1000W Platinum Power Supply. There has never been a problem running anything at any time until now. It is used for day trading so at any given time there's 20% of that 64GB in use. There is plenty of everything to run this Excel file.
Additional info:
The computer is not overheating.
It happens whether other applications are open or not.
It happens right after startup or after the computer has been on for awhile.
My Chrome uses about 6GB of RAM at any time and my trading application uses about the same. Neither have an issue.
The CPU maxes out when Excel fails so I'm guessing it has something to do with the processing power of all the calculations at the same time.
There's too many names and formulas to recreate in a new spreadsheet without taking several days so I'm really trying to avoid that test.
Thanks for your help. I'm really desperate here.
