Duration Chart/Graph

I am facing a absolute road block. Oddily I can do it by hand on (a graph) paper ( drawing these lines by hand) but not able to do it in Excel


Following is the data : ie First column is a name (for eg person who was HOD of Computer department) or event, Second column is it's/their Start Date and third column is it's/their End Date


TITLE START END

Premnath 2/11/2013 6/30/2013

Tarun 12/5/2011 12/31/2012

Geetey 3/21/2011 12/31/2012

Santosh 12/11/2006 6/30/2007

Mahesh 2/1/2010 8/30/2010


Chart Required should HAVE HORIZONTAL BARS ( one for each name in column "title") for time between these dates - the horizontal axis should show months from (say) 2005 through 2014 and vertical axis should show names or anything in column "title")


Best would be (In addition to above) if we can have "Today " in it, as a vertical bar or line - this bar should change daily with system date

To do what you want you need to rearange your data into 3 columns as follows


Column 1 Title - Name

Column 2 Start date - Date

Column 3 Duration - Number = End date - Start Date


Select the data and insert a Stacked Bar Chart

Then set the Horizontal axis minimum to the earliest date 39033 = 12/11/2006

Maximum to automatic
