Chart Scale Issues

Hi there-

Have months 1/1-12/1 on my X axis. However, I have 1 data point of 8/16 that I also need to show on the chart. As such, there are 13 data points. When introducing the 8/16 to the chart, it messes up the axis and puts it to days. What I'd prefer is to have all months, and then 8/16 fits in between 8/1 & 9/1. As of now, it stacks 8/1 on TOP of 8/16.

I've tried reducing scale/etc but am having issues.

Any ideas?

What I did:

Created line chart with the 1/1 - 12/1 dates.

Checked x scale, made sure units were months. Unchecked the units box so they wouldn't update

In my data, inserted the 8/16 data point in correct spot (data needs to be sorted)

Scale did not change, new data point at 8/16 appears.

Is this different somehow?

have you tried using the X Y (Scatter) chart option? That way, you won't have a scaling problem between the months.

However, you won't be seeing the chart as a line or bar chart.

Ugh...I forgot to meniton that it's a stacked column :-s...

I'm going to try these options anyway...

@Luke, my guess is he was trying to demonstrate a monthly data, hence 12 months total and pinpoint only one day (8/16/2011) to tell some story that makes August stands out.

@3G, if you are using stacked column. You may want to subtract 8/16/11 from the data set. Put 8/16/11 in a different data set with zeros from Jan-Jul and Sept-Dec. That way, the total of August would not be distorted and you single out 8/16/11. I was just thinking in terms of sales volumn ($ or Q). May be I'm wrong and Luke's right. But if you are using stacked column and only stacked columns, that'd be my recommendation.

And you can point to the difference in color and convey your story, say, what you see in color red is contributed by the result in one day in August.

Thanks Fred!

Getting closer. It's stacking the 1 series on top of the other in August. I'd like to fit it in between 8/1 & 9/1, but again, the scale gets distorted once I add the series, and, it defaults to days
