Can't find external links

When I open a particular file, I get prompted about external links and whether or not I want to update them.

I did a find on "[" since all external links should have a "[" but nothing came up.

If I don't have external links, why am I being asked whether or not to update them when I open this particular file.

Unfortunately I can't upload the file because it contains confidential data.
 
The file you have has links to another file that you don't have, you need access to both files, the file you don't have may contain data that your files needs to work correctly.
Did you construct the file you are using or is it the work of someone else
 
On the ribbon, go to Data and then Connections to see how your file is connected to other files. I find that when inheriting others' files, Connections and Name Manager are the first places to go (and clean) when I see errors pop up.
 
Links may also exist in the data for charts. If your workbook has charts, you should check the data source(s). This will not be included in search results, so you would need to check it manually.
